The CW tries again….with Nikita

22 02 2010

The remake-reboot trend is not only for movies, it’s for television too. Yay…..The CW is trying to remake/’remordenize’ another television series from years past. That is what the CW will now be known for, as the channel that ‘re-does’ everything, it’s worked so well for 90210 and Melrose Pl–well 90210 (marginally so). The CW has announced its plans to remake the French film Nikita into another TV series. Yes, kiddies another one. USA made a successful series, Le Femme Nikita, that ran for 5 season from 1997 to 2001. It was of course based on the French movie Nikita and its US remake Point of No Return. Since this isn’t the first time that this film has been reworked into a series,  I can see its potential to work. The titular Nikita this time around will be Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard). She can kick some ass, which is apparently what this character is supposed to…

The USA title card

I’m still doubtful,  the CW has yet to legitimized itself as a strong network (that’s the reason that Jensen Ackles from Supernatural hasn’t been nominated for an Emmy). Having not seen the 2 movies or the series, I come into this project with an open mind. So we’ll see

Nikita the series premieres presumably in the fall, keep ya posted!

Clash Of the Titans…

18 02 2010

Sam Worthington has to be the busiest Australian import, after our beloved Mr. Jackman, in the industry today. In his ever-growing list of ripe movie roles, his most recent most part is Perseus, made famous by Harry Hamlin, in the remake of the 1980s  Clash of the Titans. I have never seen the 80’s original (can’t stand 80’s special effects) and I’m iffy on the new version. I love Greek mythology, a passion of mine, so naturally one of my eyebrows raised with curiosity. Then I saw the trailer…..

How awesome was it to cast Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes as brothers, casting them as brothers in any movie is awesome. You mean to tell me that Qui-Gon Jinn and Lord Voldermort are brothers in a movie….wow……I used to think that they were brothers. Another standout is Alexa Davalos aka Gwen from Angel, I would love to see her more. And The Kracken, whose face we finally see, is a mad mother–shut your mouth. Still I’m getting a meh feeling about this but I’m an actor whore, so I will see it–EVEN IF IT WAS PUSHED BACK A MONTH FOR ITS 3D REJUVENATION…. Strangely I’m not excited about this movie but it does get my heart beating for the God of War movie.

Clash of the Titans now hit theaters on April 2nd, 2010.

The 3 Musketeers!!

18 02 2010

The Three Musketeers has been adapted several times into movies, the one adaption that comes to mind is the 1993 version starring a very young Chris O’Donnell. Hmm.. Wasn’t he dreamy, with his soft curls and baby face. Every-time a NCIS: Los Angles commercial comes on, I start singing Bryan Adams ‘All for One‘. That version wasn’t a good one at all. Coming from Disney studios, meaning it was made for the kiddies but had some serious tones for the grown-ups, I didn’t expect any real accuracy from book to film. But the most recent adaptation that infuriates me is 2001’s The Musketeer starring a pre-Grey’s Justin Chambers……sigh……It was bad….The fight scenes weren’t even able to save that shit-ta-cious movie.

I am glad that one of my favorite book is getting another update, this time it’ll be more of a modern tale in the vein of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlocke Holmes. Yay!! The potential for a frachise, like Sherlocke Holmes, is ripe for the picking. The other two books in the d’Artagnan Romances might get their chance to come to the big screen.

Giving  THM a contemporary update is screenwriter Peter Straughan (The Men Who Stare At Goats) and produced by Lionel Wigram (Sherlocke Holmes). I am hopeful for this one…stay tuned for updates.

Take it away Bryan Adams…….

Quentin Tarantino to direct a ‘Southern’

17 02 2010

Check out this quote.

“I’d like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let’s shine that light on ourselves. You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it ‘A Southern.’”

I……..I know one thing we can expect from this new take on a western is snappy dialogue (I’m a sucker for dialogue) and a talented cast. But……hmmm……….I’m left with a real uneasy feeling about this one but I had that same feeling about Inglourious Basterds (Christoph Waltz as the ‘Jew Hunter’ for the Oscar win)…..I don’t know if i want to see a film about slavery. It is still such a touchy subject ,even in this ‘post-racial america’, that I feel very nervous for this project. If Quentin misses this up–Jesse, Al and his nemesis Spike will be the first one to kick him in the teeth.

And this was announced during Black History Month….hmm…

{calls Spike}. Hello Mr. Lee…..

To Be Continued.

17 02 2010

Wow…….I dont know what to say…..Vin Diesel career is on fire now because of Fast & Furious so it only makes sense that he’ll drudge up this dying cat too. The last Riddick was too big of a shit-ta-cious mess. C of R bombed at the box office (cost 105 mil, made 115–technically a bomb) but the games were  successful enough to spawn a new movie. This time around will the film will focus on Riddick more, not on the sets and a floating Judi Dench. (couch*Pitch Black anyone *cough).

Penning the script again will be David Twohy ( A Perfect Getaway).

The Chronicles of Riddick 3 will be out sometime, I’ll keep you updated………….sigh

Flash Forward

16 02 2010

So who’s been watching  FlashForward? I am….kinda……..I don’t know anymore.  In case you’re not familar with the show here’s the synopis via wikipedia.

‘A mysterious event causes nearly everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 137 seconds, during which people see what appear to be visions of their lives approximately six months in the future—a global “flashforward”. A team of Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and spearheaded by Mark Benford (Fiennes), begin the process of determining what happened, why, and whether it will happen again. Benford contributes a unique perspective on the investigation; in his flashforward, he saw the results of six months of investigation that he had done on the flashforward event, and he and his team use those clues to recreate the investigation.

The team investigates a number of events related to the flashforward, including “Suspect Zero”, who did not lose consciousness during the event, the sinister “D. Gibbons”, and a similar mass loss of consciousness in Somalia in 1991. Meanwhile, personal revelations contained within the flashforwards occupy the personal lives of the principal characters. Mark Benford sees his alcoholism relapsing, his wife sees herself with another man, and other characters grapple with similarly unexpected or surprising revelations in their flashforwards.’

With how the episodes are playing out, I don’t believe the pay off  will be statisfying….You guys know that I follow the actors. I’m an actor whore. With a cast that holds the talents of Joseph Fiennes (the cute Fiennes brother), John Cho (Sulu, Harold), Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: CI), and Lee Thompson Young (The Famous Jett Jackson), I was hooked. Even if it is advertised as a new Lost, I still wanted to see it. The first episode had me hooked, who doesn’t like a good disaster scene. I even tried to get my reluctant sister to watch (she still havent). Even when the blackout was somehow connected to Nazi (damn dirty Nazi’s), I became un-hooked but still was tuning in (on hulu). My blood pressure hit the roof when a whole episode dedicated to that damn cancer-love-japan story arc!! I guess David S. Goyer, the show’s show runner, felt and the same because he left the show.

I honestly don’t care about the endgame of the series is, I’m more interested in who kills John Cho’s character. I’m already mad that my man crush Lee committed suicide…sigh…

FlashForward return on March 18, 2010.

Full House on Entourage?

16 02 2010

One aspect of the Entourage universe I like is when celebrities you think you know come on the show and act like a complete tool or pervy clinger. One celeb that comes to mind is Bob Saget. We all know Bob as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s dad on Full House, the nice and understanding Dan Tanner. On Entourage, he is the creepy neighbor that over-shares about his bedroom antics( after seeing his stand up, this version seems closer to home). Not only will he be back for season 7, he’s bringing Uncle Jesse!!! Yum. Apparently he’s going to war with Johnny Drama. I can just imagine the verbal quips will get from Vinnie Chase’s older (much older) brother. lol

Entourage premieres this summer.
